President’s Message

Dear RMSO Members, It has been a privilege to serve on the Executive Board of the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists for the past three years. I have had the great fortune of observing our Past Presidents, Drs. Michael Chaffee, Anil Idiculla and Dani Phillis, navigate this organization through the change and uncertainty of their terms with immense grace and flexibility. I am honored and grateful to lead this organization as we emerge from the COVID-era re-energized and excited to connect with our peers and communities.
Coming off a very successful Western Orthodontic Conference held jointly with the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists in San Diego last fall, we are excited to continue combined constituent meetings. This year, we have joined forces with the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists for our Annual Session. Dr. Nellie Kim, MSO President, and I have been working hard with our planning team to create a unique meeting experience at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in October. We are in an age in which the impact of orthodontics is recognized as an important component of overall health. As such, our meeting, Discover Wellness Beyond Healthy Smiles, will feature both orthodontic and medical experts discussing areas in which orthodontics and medicine intersect, such as adolescent mental health, orthognathic surgery and obstructive sleep apnea. Moreover, meeting attendees will have exclusive access to book an Executive Health Physical at the Mayo Clinic. The waiting list for these appointments is typically over a year long, so I urge our membership to take advantage of this opportunity.
One of my intentions as President of the RMSO this year is to examine how we can best engage and support our members and provide opportunities for all those interested in leadership. The Board is committed to making opportunities accessible to RMSO orthodontists from all career stages (including our residents!) and practice backgrounds. To this end, in conjunction with our Trustee, Dr. Ryan Frost, the RMSO Executive Board will hold quarterly Virtual Town Hall Meetings to provide important updates from AAO, RMSO and Component leadership and foster connection between our members and leaders. We hope you will participate!
